The 4th China-Caribbean Economic and Trade Forum Ministerial Meeting Successfully Held in Boao, Hainan Province

From September 12 to 14, the 4th China-Caribbean Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum Ministerial Conference was held in Boao, Hainan Province, co-hosted by the Ministry of Commerce and Hainan Provincial People’s Government. Wang Shouwen, International Trade Negotiator and Vice Minister of the Ministry of Commerce, presided over the meeting and made a speech.

Wang Shouwen said that the high frequency of head-of-state diplomacy between China and Caribbean countries has pointed out the direction for further deepening economic and trade relations between China and Caribbean countries in the new era. The two sides have increasingly become important economic and trade partners of each other, and the results of cooperation have benefited the people of China and Canada. The recently held Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China made systematic plans to further deepen reform in all respects and promote Chinese modernization. It will improve the institutional mechanisms for opening up and unswervingly promote high-standard opening up, which will bring more opportunities to Caribbean countries and other global partners.

Wang Shouwen pointed out that the Ministry of Commerce will earnestly implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two sides, and is willing to work with the Caribbean countries to further enhance the level of trade and investment facilitation through negotiation and signing of trade and investment agreements and establishing working groups. Encourage enterprises from both sides to deepen cooperation in industrial chain and supply chain opening, and constantly explore cooperation in green, blue, digital and other emerging fields; In the framework of development cooperation, support for livelihood projects in the Caribbean will be increased and human resources cooperation will be consolidated. China will continue to support Caribbean countries in seeking prosperity and development and enhancing the well-being of their people.

Representatives of the Governments of 11 Caribbean countries, including Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Bahamas, Cuba, Dominica, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago, attended and made statements. Representatives of the secretariat of the Caribbean Community and representatives of interested Governments attended as observers.

Participating Caribbean countries said that the China-Caribbean Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum is an important platform and bond for mutually beneficial and friendly cooperation, and promotes in-depth cooperation in trade, investment and assistance among all parties. We are willing to give full play to the forum mechanism, consolidate the foundation of China-Canada practical cooperation, explore more emerging areas of cooperation, and promote common development.

After the meeting, all parties jointly issued the Joint Statement of the Fourth China-Caribbean Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation Ministerial Meeting.

During the meeting, Wang Shouwen held talks with Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Cuba, Dominica, Representatives of the Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago and representatives of the Caribbean Community Secretariat held bilateral meetings to exchange in-depth views on bilateral and multilateral economic and trade issues of mutual interest. Following the meeting, bilateral cooperation documents were signed with representatives of Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Barbados, Cuba and Guyana.

In addition, the Conference organized 11 dialogues between Caribbean Ministers of Economy and Trade and Chinese Enterprises, and more than 60 Chinese enterprises participated in the docking, creating an exchange platform for the two sides to explore cooperation opportunities and solve practical problems encountered by enterprises in cooperation.

Life at the Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology

Stepping into the unknown can be quite nerve-wracking, however, it provides a great opportunity for exploration and learning!

In November of 2022, I embarked on a new journey with the end goal being a degree in Environmental and Ecological Engineering from the Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology. The journey thus far has come with many wonderful experiences, opportunities, and challenges. Here’s a peek into what I’ve been up to at NUIST.

Anyone who knows me knows that I like to dabble in writing, so it only made sense that I’d manage to sniff out the associated organization on campus within weeks of arrival. i-NET! i-NET’s duty is to keep the student body up-dated, however, it doesn’t stop there. The members go further to entertain and make every article or post a memorable and enjoyable one! I was overjoyed to be able to share my love for writing and poetry with the group along with discussing prospects of hosting a poetry slam along with the usual essay competitions. It was a joy and honour to serve as an author and reviewer along with this dedicated bunch!

NUIST 53rd Sports Meet; Track & Field

In November of 2023, NUIST hosted its 53rd Track and Field meet on campus grounds. A dedicated team of 4o international students represented the College of International students under the guidance of three of their peers. Namely, a Vincentian, Bah Bashiri Zeberi John, a Samoan, David-The shepherd Tausili, and a Grenadian, Chanda K. Stafford. The three displayed with great fervor why island nations are often referred to as small but mighty! The representatives from the College of International Education attained 6th place and 5th place respectively in the men’s and women’s category among all the colleges at the institution.

NUIST Model United Nations

UNFCCC – COP28

In May of 20224 NUIST hosted its second annual Model United Nations Forum, where students from different faculties gathered as representatives of various countries world wide. The proceedings sought to encourage professional debate, critical thinking and problem solving as participants were tasked with representing the interests of their assigned country or organization. The discussions were centered around furthering the development of the green economy in practical and scientific ways while pledging to acknowledge climate justice. It was a pleasure representing Cuba and by extensions other island states within the Caribbean as I added ardently to the discussions. Furthermore, I was thrilled to be among the participants selected for a special award based on contributions to the proceedings.

Recently, I was appointed as the Vice President of CIE’s New Media Centre for the academic year of 2024 – 2025. I look forward to continuing to share my imaginativeness with the department as we aspire to keep the international student body well-informed while providing much-needed support to the departments within the faculty!

Although the past academic year proved particularly challenging due to an injury sustained in the first semester, I am pleased to say that it did not clip my wings. Instead in provided an opportunity for growth and development.

I can’t wait to see everything the new academic year has to offer!

Ambassador Ian Marshall met the General Administration of Wushu Sport at the Wushu Center in Beijing

On the morning of August 30th, Zhang Yuping, Director of Wushu Management Center and President of Wushu Research Institute of the General Administration of Sport of China, met with Mr Ian Marshall, Ambassador of Grenada to China. The two sides had fruitful exchanges on promoting the development of martial arts in Grenada. Zhang welcomed Ambassador Marshall and congratulated him on the outstanding achievements of the Grenadian athletes in the Paris Olympic Games. She said that the steady development of bilateral relations in recent years has laid a good foundation for the spread and popularization of martial arts in Grenada.

The Chinese side is willing to provide assistance within its capacity to the Grenadian side in terms of expert coaches, invitations to attend training camps in China, popularization and promotion of discipline, and jointly promote the development of Grenada martial arts.

During the talks, Ambassador Marshall reiterated the Grenadian government’s firm position of supporting the one-China principle, saying that this principle is the cornerstone of China-Grenada relationship and cooperation in various fields. He agreed with Director Zhang Yuping’s initiative that Grenada should joint the International Wushu Federation and it should be promoted through sports, education and other channels for the popularisation of martial arts in Grenada. He welcomed the martial arts instructors to Grenada to sow the seeds of martial arts, believing that with the joint efforts of both sides, martial arts will flourish in Grenada and contribute to the friendship between the two peoples.

Grenada CBI Unveils its New Name and Brand

St. George’s, Grenada (25 March 2024): The Grenada Citizenship by Investment Unit (CIU) is pleased to announce the official launch of its new name and brand identity, a milestone that marks a new chapter in its illustrious journey of facilitating and promoting investment migration. The grand unveiling ceremony was held on March 20, 2024, at a media conference at the Royalton Grenada, attended by government officials, key industry stakeholders, international partners, and various media outlets.

The Grenada CIU is now known as the Investment Migration Agency (IMA) Grenada, and this new name is supported by a new brand identity that represents a blend of tradition and innovation. The new logo and visual elements, inspired by Grenada’s rich cultural heritage and the CBI Programme’s robust due diligence measures, reflect a commitment to excellence and integrity. IMA Grenada’s new brand also comes with a new tagline, “Unlock the Possibilities,” a call to its target audiences to access opportunities designed to transform their social and economic prospects.

In introducing the new brand, CEO of IMA Grenada, Mr. Thomas Anthony, said this significant branding exercise is a fitting and timely way to celebrate the programme’s role in creating investment migration opportunities over the last 10 years.

“This rebranding to Investment Migration Agency Grenada is not just a change of name; it is a recommitment to our core values and a promise to our clients and stakeholders that we will continue to offer investment migration pathways that are rooted in integrity, security, and prosperity. We are paving the way for a new era in investment migration, where Grenada becomes a beacon of opportunity and a preferred destination for discerning investors worldwide,” Mr. Anthony said.

PM Mitchell noted that the launch of the new brand came at an opportune time, moments after the signing of a historic agreement among other regional CBI programs. “I just signed an MOU between Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, St. Kitts and Nevis, and Grenada to establish regional benchmarks pertaining to the investment migration industry. It seeks to unify many of the standards that apply to the industry in the region, establish a regional mechanism for the monitoring, auditing, and/or regulation of the various investment migration programmes, and establish a minimum investment amount across all territories.”

The rebranding initiative includes a comprehensive overhaul of the programme’s visual and communication elements, designed to resonate with its target audiences while paying homage to Grenada’s rich heritage and culture. After the ceremony, Xi delivered a speech to the ambassadors.

Xi asked the ambassadors to convey his cordial greetings and best wishes to their state leaders and the peoples. Noting that China cherishes friendship with people of other countries, Xi said China is willing to deepen friendship and expand mutually beneficial cooperation with people of other countries on the basis of equality and mutual benefit, and to push forward bilateral relations.

It is hoped that ambassadors will have a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of China and serve to strengthen the bond of cooperation and build a bridge of communication for bilateral relations. The Chinese government will provide support and convenience for ambassadors to perform their duties, Xi said.

“This year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China,” Xi stressed, adding that China is advancing the building of a strong and prosperous country and national rejuvenation in all respects through Chinese modernization. The mission and objective of Chinese modernization are to enable the over 1.4 billion Chinese people to live a better life. For the world, this means a broader market and unprecedented development opportunities, which will inject strong impetus into the modernization of countries around the world.

Xi said the world today is not peaceful. With the future of mankind and the well-being of its people in mind, China, as always, endeavours to contribute its wisdom and solutions to the cause of peace and development of mankind, advocate an equal and orderly multipolar world and a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization, promote the building of a community with a shared future for humanity, and work together to build a better world.

Wang Yi met with Grenada’s Foreign Minister Joseph Andall

On September 6, 2023, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister of the Communist Party of China, met with Grenadian Foreign Minister Andall in Beijing.

Wang Yi said that Grenada is an important country in the Caribbean region and a friendly cooperative partner of China. Since the resumption of diplomatic relations, China and Grenada have always respected and treated each other as equals, and the relations between the two countries have become increasingly mature. The Chinese side highly appreciates Grenada’s adherence to the One-China principle, respect for China’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity thus will support Grenada’s exploration of a development path suited to its own national conditions, and is willing to work together with Grenada to open up new prospects for cooperation between the two countries.

Grenada Foreign Minister Visits China

From September 1 to 4, Grenada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Export Development, Joseph Andall, Ambassador to China, Ian Marshall, and Assistant Commissioner of the Royal Police Force, Randy Connaught, visited Qingdao in Shandong Province, China.

On the morning of 3rd September 2023, Geng Tao, member of the standing Committee of the Municipal CPC Committee and deputy mayor, met with the delegation at the Seaview Garden Hotel. Geng Tao welcomed the guests. He said that Qingdao is located on the coast of the Yellow Sea and the southern tip of the Shandong Peninsula, with convenient transportation conditions, strong industrial foundation, obvious advantages in opening up, and sustained and healthy economic and social development. Grenada has beautiful natural environment and rich tourism resources, and has many cooperation points with Qingdao. It is hoped that the visit will serve as an opportunity to promote exchanges and cooperation between the two sides in the fields of marine economy, economic and trade exchanges, people-to-people exchanges and vocational education, and promote China-Georgia friendship with more practical results.

Joseph Andall said that Qingdao is a beautiful coastal city with a prosperous and dynamic economy and impressive achievements in high-quality economic and social development. On the afternoon of 3rd September 2023, witnessed by Andall and Lin Bin, Huangni Lane, Yellow Village, West Coast New District signed a Letter of Intent with Red Mud Village, St. Patrick District, Grenada. Consensus was reached on carrying out exchanges and cooperation in areas such as rural revitalization, characteristic agriculture, ecological environmental protection, and cultural tourism.
